“You Crown The Year With Your Goodness…”

“…and your paths drip with abundance” Psalm 65:11.

This praise-filled verse always comes to mind during the New Year period. I like it because it sums up the ‘Old’ year and looks forward to the New. I like it because it covers every circumstance. The Old Year had its challenges and its disappointments, but it also had its encouragements and victories. Not everything went according to plan! I guess, that with a few of us, some things we had thought about and planned for, just didn’t work out. But as I look back, I can say with gratitude that it has gone according to God’s plan and that “all things” have “worked together for good”.

Whatever the year, the promise of Jeremiah 29:11 is being fulfilled in our lives. The Word of God speaks to us personally when it says “For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”.

In Psalm 65, King David is praising God for a year of ‘goodness’. It is his personal prayer of praise and thanksgiving to God, who, although he ‘holds the whole world in His hands’ still has time for him as a needy individual. I can testify that it has been the same for me. Year after year we are blessed beyond measure by God’s gift of eternal life. Jesus said, “I have come that you might have life, and have it to the full”. In other words, “Abundant Life”. We are blessed too with God’s grace. John 1:16 says: “And of His fullness have we all received, and grace for grace”. And don’t let’s forget love, His love, that is “…poured out into our hearts by the Holy Spirit…” Romans 5:5.

As we move together into the New Year, with one heart and one mind, let’s believe together that we shall indeed be “filled with all the fullness of God” Ephesians 3:19.

Be blessed with God’s abundance.

Eddie.
